Boat Check-in and Check-Out Procedures

Challenge:

Staff members at a summer camp have not been following boat check-in and check-out procedures consistently and correctly. This has resulted in multiple unnecessary Water Emergency Searches at the camp.

Solution:

After conducting a needs analysis with camp leadership, I determined the best addition to their training would be an eLearning module that staff members can complete on their own prior to their arrival at the camp. Points to emphasize: why it is important to follow boat procedures exactly and the individual importance of using the Boat Log and the Boat Board. A job aid was also created to be posted at the Boat Station for quick reference.

Result:

After the training, staff members had a better understanding of boat procedures and why they are important. Water Emergency Searches were reduced to zero during the summer in which this training was utilized.
